Kenilworth is in the Sunshine Cost Hinterland, east of the Conondale National Park (part of which forms the Kenilworth State Forest). Kenilworth Town itself has a population of about 300.

Kenilworth Main Street (Elizabeth Street):
More of interest than you might expect in a small hinterland town.

Kenilworth Town Park:
Northern corner of Charles and Elizabeth Streets. Has electric BBQ facilities, toilets, under cover seating and a well equipped children's play area.

Kenilworth River Park:
Far end (east) of Charles Street. Park with access to the Mary River for fishing etc. Good for picnics and exploring the River.

Fig Tree Walk:
4km on Maleny-Kenilworth Rd at Little Yabba Ck. A short boardwalk through impressive rain forest with giant fig trees - less than 1.5km long and wheelchair accessible.

State Forest at Kenilworth:
Take Maleny-Kenilworth Rd (4km) then right into Sunday Creek Rd. Forestry office 1km on left. Camping areas on Booloumba Creek and Little Yabba Creek. Picnic tables, toilets, wood-fired barbecues, firewood, water and bins are provided. Camping suitable for families, large groups and caravans. Pay your fees on-site.

Little Yabba Creek at Cambroon:
4km on Maleny-Kenilworth Rd. Small park at confluence of Mary River and Little Yabba Creek. BBQ facilities and toilets.

The Mary Valley

Tourist Route 22 runs along the Mary River Valley, passing through, or near, a number of small towns. As well as its normal visitor attractions Kenilworth is noted for its hosting of art activities and is part of a developing Mary Valley Art Trail. The most significant artifact near Kenilworth is probably the Andy Goldsworthy "Strangler Cairn". This is located at Booloumba Creek Area 2, about 12 minutes drive from Kenilworth, with a half hour walk to reach the forest site half way between the Agricola Gold Mine and Artist’s Cascades. The site can be visited as part of the Conondale Range Great Walk. See the Arts Queensland video:

Getting Here

By car: For the most direct route from Brisbane, take the Bruce Highway to the Landsborough turnoff (left) - this should take about 1 hour - carry on through Landsborough, Maleny and Conondale to Kenilworth - this will take you another hour. Alternatively, carry on up the Bruce Highway to Eumundi - this should take an hour and a half - then take the next turn left after Eumundi, following the Kenilworth Tourist Drive, through Belli Park to Kenilworth - this will take less than half an hour.

Travelling from the Gold Coast will take an additional hour and from Toowoomba it will take about two and a quarter hours to get to Maleny and a further three quarters to Kenilworth.

By bus/coach: There are daily services between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.

By train: There are regular Queensland Rail electric train services from Brisbane to the region stopping at Beerburrum, Glasshouse Mountains, Beerwah, Landsborough, Mooloolah, Eudlo, Palmwoods, Woombye, Nambour, Yandina, Eumundi, Cooroy, Pomona, Cooran, Traveston, and Gympie North. By air: Brisbane Airport is the domestic and international gateway to Queensland. Domestic flights to the Sunshine Coast airport by Qantas operate daily. Buses and taxis are available at the airport. Bus connections are to Noosa, Coolum, Maroochydore, Mooloolaba and Caloundra. There is also an Airport Bus service which is door to door between Sunshine Coast Airport and your accommodation or home.

Valley Rattler: Coach drive to Gympie then board the "Rattler" steam train to Imbil for a smorgasboard lunch. Rejoin the coach to drive to Kenilworth and spend some time in the Township, including visiting the Cheese Factory and Lasting Impressions Gallery. Next to Little Yabba Creek for an easy rainforest walk before returning home.
